A Heart Devoted
to Healing Hearts

The story of Dr. P. K. Dash — born in Kakatpur, Puri — a cardiologist of medical excellence, personal humility and deep service to humanity.

The Physician

Dr. Pravat Kumar Dash

Born on 30 August 1955 at Kakatpur in Puri district, Odisha, Dr. P. K. Dash — also recorded as Dr. Pravat Kumar Dash and in some public references as Dr. Prabhat Kumar Das — came from a humble rural background. Limited resources and few modern facilities never stopped his determination; those early struggles shaped a lifelong sensitivity toward people who suffer because of poverty, distance and lack of access.

He completed MBBS from SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack (1979), MD from Veer Surendra Sai Medical College, Burla (1983), and DM in Cardiology from SCB Medical College (1990). His credentials also include FACC and SCAI, reflecting association with advanced interventional practice. From the beginning he saw medicine not merely as a profession but as a sacred responsibility — a means of reducing human suffering.

What distinguishes Dr. Dash is not only technical mastery, but compassion. Patients from remote corners of Odisha and from West Bengal, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and beyond travel to receive his care. They trust him because he treats every patient — regardless of economic status — as a member of his own family, listens with patience, explains with clarity, and works till the last person is seen.

"Each patient is treated optimally as per cardiology guidelines with less expenses. Each one gets equal attention and importance. The work flow goes relentlessly till the last patient is seen."
— Dr. Pravat Kumar Dash, Padma Shri Nomination

A teacher of teachers, he has trained more than 30 postgraduate cardiology students — including five gold medalists — and guided roughly 500 examination-going postgraduate cardiology students across India, along with more than 100 students in cardiology and non-coronary intervention. As Director of Cardiology & CTVS at Capital Hospital / PGIMER, Bhubaneswar since 16 December 2019, and as Professor & Director, Institute of Cardiology and Cardiac Science at Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital since 2020, he continues to build systems, mentor doctors, and serve the poor through free mega cardiac camps and government screening programmes.

During the Covid period he continued active hospital duty even while his wife, late Dr. Puspa Kumari Devi, was on her deathbed due to Covid infection and subsequently passed away. He was recognised as a Covid warrior — a testament to duty that goes beyond professional obligation into moral conviction.
